Nindayaamin Omaa Gayaabi

Nindayaamin Omaa Gayaabi translated to Ojibwe is We Are Still Here. This painting was completed by Janelle Wawia in response to Canada’s 150th celebration in 2017. It was also in the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Prints available.

This Anishinaabekwe represents many children, young women, mothers and grandmothers who show the world that we are still here despite many acts of violence, cultural genocide, and thousands of murdered and missing women.

Indigenous women have been a backbone in healing, resistance, resurgence and resilience of our people. The background of this painting is influenced by a ribbon skirt and the circles represent the seven generations and the seven grandfather teachings.

There is a dignified and powerful resilience prior to and subsequent of the dominion of Canada and it's 150th Anniversary.
